Narrative (story, tale) - an oral or written retelling of a series of events.
Narrative element - a feature that is common to any kind of story.
People love stories. From a child hanging on to their grandparents every word to a teenager dying to hear from their friend about last night's adventures, we cannot resist the desire to know what happened next?
With a greater understanding of the elements that are essential to all good stories we become more confident when analysing narrative texts in the classroom. And, this understanding also helps us when it comes to telling our own amazing stories.
In this guide we primarily use the terms writer and reader to refer to the creators and audiences for stories, even though tales can be told in many different mediums these days.
